Maryland State Standards - Social Studies - 3.A.1.a
Describe the purposes of a variety of maps and atlases, such as transportation maps, physical maps, and political maps
3rd graders used line levels and rulers to build a real topography map of our school courtyard. This was part of a larger maps unit, designed to help students understand what topography lines represent. Students used the topography of the courtyard later in the year to design a community.

October 2016-March 2017
Approximately 70 students
Our students participated in the RiverxChange Program from 2015-2017. This program was a collaborative effort between our school and other schools across North America. We shared information about our local stream and watershed with other classes via classroom blogs. In turn, we learned about their streams, rivers, and local environment. The students were very interested in learning about what it was like to live in the New Mexico. Students were able to compare our environment with that of our blog partners.
